Your brand, on every product
Everything you need to know about custom labels
Custom labels are pressure-sensitive stickers printed with your artwork and cut to the exact size and shape your product needs. They wrap bottles, top jars, seal boxes, and front cosmetics, candles and food packaging — carrying your brand name, ingredients, barcodes and design onto every unit you sell. A well-made label is the difference between a container that looks homemade and a product that looks ready for the shelf.
Because every label is made to order, the right specification depends on where the product lives and what the label has to survive — a dry pantry, a wet cooler, a bathroom shelf, or a freezer. This guide walks through the label materials and adhesives available, the finishes and embellishments that set a product apart, the shapes and formats you can order, how the process runs from artwork to delivery, and how bulk pricing works. If you already know what you need, you can request a custom quote at any point.
A custom label sells the product before anyone reads a word
Generic address labels and home-printer stickers curl, smudge and fade. A custom label printed on the right stock with the right adhesive and finish looks professional, holds up to handling, and makes your product instantly recognizable. Whether you’re labeling craft beverages, cosmetics, candles, supplements or pantry goods, custom labels make small-batch products look like national brands.
Shelf presence
Full-color printing, custom die-cut shapes and premium finishes give your product a polished, retail-ready look that stands out on a crowded shelf.
Built to last
Waterproof BOPP and vinyl stocks resist moisture, oils and scuffing, so labels stay crisp through cold storage, refrigeration and everyday handling.

Custom label materials: which stock do you need?
Material is the single biggest decision for a custom label. Paper stocks are economical and print beautifully for dry-use products, while synthetic films like BOPP and vinyl are waterproof and oil-resistant for anything that gets wet, cold or handled hard. Here’s how the common options compare.
| Material | Best for | Water & oil resistance | Common finishes |
|---|---|---|---|
| White paper Economical | Dry-use products, boxes, pantry goods | Low — not waterproof | Gloss, matte |
| Kraft paper | Natural, artisan & eco-minded brands | Low to moderate | Matte, uncoated |
| White BOPP film Popular | Bath, beauty, food, beverage, outdoor | High — waterproof, oil-resistant | Gloss, matte, laminate |
| Clear BOPP film | “No-label” look on glass & clear plastic | High — waterproof | Gloss (with white underprint) |
| Metallic / silver BOPP | Premium spirits, cosmetics, accents | High — waterproof | Metallic, spot gloss |
| Vinyl | Heavy-duty, industrial, long outdoor life | High — weather & UV resistant | Gloss, matte, laminate |

Choosing the right adhesive
The stock is only half the equation — the adhesive determines whether a label stays put or peels off. The right choice depends on the surface, the temperature it’s stored at, and whether the label ever needs to come off cleanly.
Permanent
The standard all-purpose adhesive. Bonds strongly to glass, plastic, paper and metal for products that stay labeled for life.
Removable
Peels away cleanly without residue — ideal for reusable containers, promotions, and labels that come off at the point of use.
Freezer / cold-temp
Formulated to grip in refrigeration and freezer conditions where standard adhesives can lose their bond.
High-tack
Extra-aggressive hold for textured, curved, powder-coated or hard-to-stick surfaces.
Waterproof bond
Pairs with film stocks for wet environments — bottles, jars, coolers and washdown areas.
Small-diameter
Designed to wrap and stay flat on lip balms, vials, test tubes and other tight-radius containers.
Built to survive water, oil, cold and everyday handling
For anything that gets wet, greasy or refrigerated, synthetic film stocks like BOPP and vinyl are the workhorses. They don’t wick moisture the way paper does, so labels won’t wrinkle, bubble or disintegrate in a cooler, a shower caddy or a kitchen. A protective laminate or coating can be added over the print to guard against scuffing, smudging and UV fading during shipping and shelf life.
Paper stocks, by contrast, deliver a beautiful natural or premium print for dry-use products where waterproofing isn’t a concern — think dry goods, candles, boxed items and gift packaging. You choose the material, adhesive and finish that match where your product will actually live, so a bathroom shower gel and a boxed dry tea are labeled very differently.
- Waterproof BOPP & vinyl — resist moisture, oils and refrigeration
- Laminate options — added scuff, smudge and UV protection
- Premium paper stocks — rich, natural print for dry use
- Freezer-grade adhesives — hold in cold storage
- Fade-resistant inks — colors stay true on the shelf
- Roll or sheet formats — hand-apply or machine-apply

Finishes and what they signal
A finish changes how a label looks and feels in the hand. The right one reinforces your brand personality — clean and clinical, warm and natural, or luxe and premium. Common options:

How custom label pricing works
Custom labels are priced per unit, and the per-label price drops as your quantity climbs. Your final quote depends on four things: material, label size & shape, finish & embellishments, and total quantity. Larger runs and simpler finishes bring the unit cost down the most.
